Pedal Assist on Electric bike

Dec 20, 2022

Pedal assist is an operating mode on an electric bike that activates a motor to support the rider whilst pedaling. The pedal-assist system operates alognside a torque sensor (optional).

Once the pedal-assist system is activated the bike will match the effort you are exerting to maximize the efficiency and comfort of the ride, it is an intuitive feature making pedalling effortless and ergonomic.

Whilst eBikes can come in various sizes and designs, they all have one thing in common: they make cycling effortless and enjoyable. Pedal-assist is a feature that can found on all of our electric bikes.

Types of Pedal assist used on an eBike:

  • City and Commuter eBikes: A commuter ebike is generally designed to be light weight and portable allowing the owner to take it everywhere with ease. Many commuter bikes also have pedal-assist, which is definitely useful if your commute involves travelling uphill.
  • Cargo Electric bikes: Electric cargo bikes are designed for carrying heavy loads (i.e. the Rayvolt Trixie Cargo eBike allows you to safely carry up to 3 children or your weekly ‘shop’). Pedal assist is particularly useful in these circumstances, providing you with the power to travel comfortably despite the extra weight of the cargo being carried.
  • Urban Electric bikes:  Urban eBikes are designed for on and off-road capabilities. These bikes have wide or fat tyres to make all-terrain cycling easy and effortless.  The ride position also gives a more comfortable and controlled cycle for casual journeys.
  • Vintage Design Electric bikes:  Vintage designed eBikes utilise classic designs to provide a stylish look and deliver an exclusive bike ride. Be unique, cycle a Harley Davidson or Indian design, these are collector models.
